How to use essential oils at home

For more than 10 years now, I am working with these magical nature’s liquids called Essential Oils. From my experience with my clients I realized that people are concerned about how to use essential oils properly and worry about their safety. 

I have some good news for you … You do not have to be an expert to put essential oils in your everyday life and you don’t have to be a certified aromatherapist to use them.

Some theory first:

Essential oils enter our bodies with inhalation, through the olfactory system (aromatically);

With absorption through the surface of the skin and taken internally.

1.      Aromatical ways of use: The simplest way to use essential oils is to inhale them, both for their amazing scent and their therapeutic properties

  • Simply by opening the bottle and inhaling its aroma.
  • Diffuse them with essential oil diffusers.
  • Put some drops (1-2) of your essential oil on a clothe and smell it.
  •  Put a drop of your essential oil under your pillow to help you with sleeping issues or spray the sheets with diluted in water essential oil (30 drops in 100ml of water)
  • A nice and creative way is to spray your clothes with the diluted essential oil.
  • Some drops on your air-condition filters will spread the essential oil fragrance in the room.
  • Boil some water, pour some drops of your favorite essential oil in and make some inhalations.
  • Put some drops (4-5) in your bath tub or in a footbath

2.      Apply on skin

There are two things you have to know before using this technic. 

The first is that you always have to dilute essential oils before applying them on your skin (1-2% of essential oil in a carrier oil) 

and the second one is to check whether the essential oil you are about to use causes photosensitivity (citrus essential oils -sweet orange, bitter orange, bergamot, lemon, tangerine, yuzu, grapefruit, mandarin-).

Avoid eyes, ears, nose and the skin around and areas where the skin is sensitive.

  • Dilute your essentials oils in carrier oil and massage topically or apply on body.
  • Dilute them in a cream and use it on skin
  • Make some handmade soaps and use them as a natural fragrance
  • Put some drops in your shampoo

3.      Taken internally

  • Dilute 1-2 drops in a table spoon of carrier oil. You can take it directly or put it in your salad and enjoy their taste and properties.
  • In a room temperature soup put 1-2 drops stir well and enjoy!

If you decide to put some essential oils in your food, try to put them when the food is not hot otherwise the essential oil will evaporate.
